PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has begun implementing new rules for customers who bring power banks during train journeys. KAI Regional Division I North Sumatra (KAI Divre I Sumut) urges all customers to pay attention to these provisions so that travel remains safe, comfortable and without problems.

KAI Divre I North Sumatra Public Relations Manager, M. As’ad Habibuddin, said that this policy is part of KAI’s commitment to maintaining the safety and security of travel for all passengers.

According to him, power banks have now become an important device for many customers to charge cellphones or other electronic devices, but their use must remain within regulatory limits to avoid potential risks.

“The implementation of this new regulation aims to mitigate potential dangers that could arise due to the use of power banks that do not comply with standards. We invite all customers to be wiser and comply with the provisions that have been set,” said As’ad.

As’ad explained that according to the new regulations, customers are allowed to bring a power bank with a maximum capacity of 100 Wh (Watt-hour). The way to calculate Wh capacity is: (mAh capacity × voltage) / 1,000.

During the trip, customers are allowed to use a power bank to charge personal devices. However, there is a prohibition on recharging power banks using the sockets available on trains.

“Sockets can only be used for devices with low power consumption, such as earphones, cellphones, tablets and laptops,” he explained.

In addition, passengers are required to ensure that the power bank they carry is in good condition—not damaged, not bulging, and has a clear capacity label. This rule is also in line with KAI’s efforts to increase safety awareness among customers.

“We hope that all passengers can help create safe and comfortable travel by using electronic devices, including power banks, responsibly,” concluded As’ad.
