The high mobility of people during the long Chinese New Year holiday 2577/2026 has encouraged a surge in train use in the South Sumatra region and its surroundings. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division III Palembang recorded that 15,793 tickets had been sold for the travel period from 13 to 18 February 2026, with the occupancy rate on a number of PSO economy trains even exceeding the available seating capacity.

Public Relations Manager of KAI Divre III Palembang, Aida Suryanti, said that trains are still the public’s preferred mode of transportation due to safety, comfort and punctuality of travel, especially during long holidays.

“Public demand during the 2577/2026 Chinese New Year long holiday is very good. This can be seen from the high ticket sales and occupancy levels on several favorite train journeys which have even exceeded seating capacity,” said Aida Suryanti.

PSO Economy Train Occupancy More Than 100 Percent

Based on temporary data, on 08 February 2026 for travel during the six long holiday:

• The PSO Bukit Serelo train connecting Kertapati – Lubuk Linggau (PP) recorded a sales level of 116 percent.

• The Rajabasa train connecting Kertapati – Tanjungkarang (PP) recorded a sales level of 115 percent.

The high occupancy rate shows the public’s great interest in train services, especially on favorite routes connecting the main cities in South Sumatra and Lampung. o Kertapati – Lubuk Linggau Relations: sold around 68 percent

o Lubuk Linggau – Kertapati relations: 100 percent sold

• February 15, 2026

o Kertapati – Lubuk Linggau Relations: sold around 52 percent

o Lubuk Linggau – Kertapati relations: sold around 25 percent

• February 16, 2026

o Kertapati – Lubuk Linggau Relations: sold around 32 percent

o Lubuk Linggau – Kertapati relations: sold around 20 percent

“We urge people who have not yet received tickets to consider alternative schedules and other trains, such as the Sindang Marga train which still has many seating options,” added Aida.
