KAI Logistics Develops the Ronggowarsito Area as an Integrated Logistics Center

PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik), a subsidiary of PT Kereta APT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik), continues to strengthen its role in supporting national logistics connectivity through developing the Ronggowarsito Terminal Area, Semarang, as an Integrated Logistics Hub. This strategic step is part of KAI Logistik’s commitment to encouraging national supply chain efficiency and strengthening the role of rail-based transportation as the backbone of green logistics.

Fredi Firmansyah, Main Director of KAI Logistik said “The growth of industrial areas in Central Java, such as the Tegal Industrial Area and the Batang Integrated Industrial Area, which is supported by the activities of the Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang has triggered an increase in the flow of goods and logistics needs in this region. The logistics and forwarding sector in the TPK Semarang area experienced growth of almost 20% throughout 20241. This condition strengthens the need for an efficient, integrated and sustainable logistics transportation system.”

So far, most of the distribution of goods and containers at Tanjung Emas Port still relies on the road mode (trucking), resulting in congestion and relatively high logistics costs. Through the development of the Ronggowarsito area, KAI Logistik presents a solution with the integration of rail-sea-road modes to smooth distribution flows, reduce congestion, and reduce national logistics costs by up to 20-30%.

Ronggowarsito Terminal has a strategic location in the center of Semarang City, with direct access to the northern cross-Java freight train line and close proximity to the port. Currently, KAI Logistik manages an area of ​​6,000 m² and is preparing the second development phase of 6,100 m² with a capacity of more than 200 TEUs. In the future, the company plans to develop Ronggowarsito 2 on an area of ​​22 hectares as a dry port and regional logistics hub that supports warehousing activities, empty container depots, customs areas, and other logistics support services.

Apart from optimizing train-based transportation, KAI Logistics will also strengthen aspects of service digitalization and integration of the national logistics system. Through a technology-based modern terminal concept, this area will become the main node in supporting government programs such as the Sea Highway, National Logistic Ecosystem (NLE), as well as the development of a highly competitive supply chain on the island of Java.
