KAI North Sumatra served 203,391 passengers in August 2025, grew 6%


PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division I of North Sumatra recorded that it had served as many as 203,391 passengers throughout August 2025. This number increased 6 percent compared to the same period in 2024, which was 191,220 passengers.

KAI Public Relations Manager of North Sumatra Regional Division I, M. As’ad Habibuddin, said that the increase in passenger volumes showed the greater public interest in rail transportation.

“The community is now increasingly aware of the importance of using mass public transportation as an efficient and environmentally friendly mobility solution,” he said.

As’ad also expressed his appreciation to all customers for the trust that continued to be given in using train services. He asserted that Kai continued to be committed to improving the quality of services, safety and comfort.

Details of the number of train passengers in August 2025, namely the Deli Putri Railway, Medan – Tanjung Balai PP, 105,765 passengers.

Then, the Sribilah Utama Railway Medan – Rantau Prapat PP relations of 54,880 passengers, the Siantar Express Train of Medan – Siantar PP relations of 38,770 passengers and the Datuk Belambangan Railway Tebing Tinggi – Lalang PP as many as 3,976 passengers.

As’ad said, 3 stations with the highest number of passenger departures in that period were Medan Station with 73,767 passengers, followed by Kisaran Station of 23,354 passengers, and Tanjungbalai Station as many as 20,007 passengers.

While 3 arrival stations with the highest passenger volume, namely Medan Station of 77,871 passengers, Kisaran Station as many as 23,269 passengers, and Tanjungbalai Station as many as 19,705 passengers.

In terms of timeliness, KAI Divre I North Sumatra recorded a very good performance. The time level of departure of passenger trains in August 2025 reached 99.9 percent, while the arrival reached 99.4 percent.

“Timeliness is one of the main advantages of rail transportation that is free of traffic barriers,” said As’ad.

KAI Divre I North Sumatra appealed to all prospective passengers to plan an early trip and order tickets through the Access by KAI application, the Kai.id website, or other official channels that have collaborated with KAI.

Ticket reservations through the Access by KAI application can be done since the D-7 departure for local trains and H-45 for long-distance trains, so that prospective customers who have plans to use train can be far away from buying tickets without fear of running out.

KAI also still provides a Go-Show counter service at the station for ticket sales that opened 3 hours before train departure.

“We are committed to continuing to improve services throughout the line, both services at the station and above the train. KAI also continues to prioritize the safety of train trips in realizing a safe, comfortable and sustainable mass transportation,” he concluded.
