KAI Airport Strengthens Wates Community Connectivity through YIA Airport Train Services

KAI Airport continues to show its commitment to supporting community connectivity and mobility, especially in the Wates area and its surroundings, through the YIA Airport Train service. The presence of this service not only facilitates transportation access, but also contributes to encouraging local economic growth.

Throughout 2025, a total of 458 thousand passengers will use YIA Airport Train services for travel between Yogyakarta Station – Wates Station and vice versa. Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2026, the number of passengers has reached 118 thousand passengers, showing the high level of public interest in safe, comfortable and timely modes of transportation.

To support the mobility needs of the community, KAI Airport operates 24 train trips every day on this connection. The travel schedule is designed to provide flexibility, with the earliest departure from Yogyakarta Station to Wates Station at 04.20 WIB, and the last departure from Wates Station to Yogyakarta Station at 21.10 WIB.

Apart from that, this service is also supported by affordable rates, starting from IDR 10,000, so that it can be accessed by various levels of society.

Through the YIA Airport Train, we hope to further strengthen the connectivity of the Wates community with Yogyakarta city center and support the economic activities of the surrounding community,” said Porwanto Handry Nugroho, Main Director of KAI Airport.

KAI Airport also continues to improve service quality, both in terms of operations, facilities and ease of access to ticket purchases, in order to provide an optimal travel experience for all service users.

With the various conveniences and advantages offered, the YIA Airport Train is expected to become the community’s main choice of transportation to support daily activities and travel to the airport.

About PT Railink

PT Railink (“KAI Airport”) is a subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia and Angkasa Pura Indonesia which provides passenger transportation services from the city center to the airport via railway. The airport train service was first operated in 2013 from Medan City to Kualanamu International Airport, then in 2018 the operation of the Soekarno-Hatta (Basoetta) Airport Train. Then in April 2022, PT Kereta Api Indonesia assigned KAI Bandara to operate the Yogyakarta International Aiport Airport Train service, thereby expanding the reach of airport train services in Indonesia.
