Putri Deli Train and Siantar Express Train add one passenger train, 10,376 seats are available in the North Sumatra region every day

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division I North Sumatra officially started the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru 2025/2026) transportation period, marked by the implementation of the Troop Call in the KAI Divre I North Sumatra office yard, Thursday (18/12). The 2025/2026 Nataru transportation period is set for 18 days, starting from 18 December 2025 to 4 January 202

“Even though it was affected by a major flood disaster at the end of last November, all railway infrastructure in the North Sumatra region is currently in prime condition and ready to serve customers during the 2025/2026 Nataru Transport period,” explained Plt. North Sumatra Division I Public Relations Manager, Anwar Yuli Prastyo.

During the 18 days of the 2025/2026 Nataru Transport period, KAI Divre I North Sumatra operated 22 train trips every day. This amount includes the operation of two Additional and Facultative Sribilah Main train trips which are starting to serve the public today.

Especially for connections to Siantar and Tanjung Balai, which are favorite routes, KAI took a strategic step by adding one economy class passenger train to the Putri Deli train and Siantar Express trains. This policy increases the total seating capacity to 186,768 seats for 18 days or an average of 10,376 seats per day. This number increased by 11% compared to the initial availability of 167,688 seats.

Based on sales data on December 18 2025, 66,173 tickets have been sold from today to the next 18 days. Meanwhile, for departures today, as many as 6,079 passengers have departed on a number of trains.

“With very affordable ticket prices, namely IDR 22,000 for the Siantar Express train and IDR 27,000 for the Putri Deli train, we want to encourage more massive community movement. This is expected to be a driving force for the tourism sector and economic growth in the North Sumatra region,” he said.

Apart from focusing on service, KAI also strengthens safety aspects by deploying Material Equipment for Standby (AMUS) at 17 strategic points to anticipate potential hydrometeorological disasters such as water overflow onto rail lines.

Security and surveillance measures were also drastically increased by deploying 140 extra personnel. “The personnel consist of 110 officers guarding level crossings to secure 66 points that do not yet have gate barriers, the remaining 30 officers are lane inspection officers and officers monitoring special monitoring areas.

Security forces in the station area and along the track have also been increased with a total of 342 personnel, including 46 members of the TNI and Polri. The involvement of the security forces aims to ensure that the station, as a vital national object, remains conducive and that train operations run without disruption.

In terms of fleet reliability, KAI Divre I North Sumatra has prepared 28 locomotives and 73 train facilities consisting of passenger trains, dining trains and generators. “All of these facilities have been declared fit for operation after going through a ramp check process or strict safety inspection by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) in November 2025,” he added.

With all the thorough preparations in terms of facilities and infrastructure, the public is advised not to hesitate to choose trains as the main mode of transportation.

“Let’s make this Christmas and New Year holiday more enjoyable, safe and memorable by traveling by train,” he concluded.
